England’s Environment Secretary David Miliband wants to bring in measures that will penalise people who do not recycle and reward those who do according to the BBC.
“Mr Miliband said councils who wanted to introduce variable charges for rubbish would have to provide adequate kerbside recycling facilities. Councils would also not be able to use the charges to raise extra funds, and would have to take into account size of households, whether people had young children or whether they were on council tax benefit.”
Curbs on the use of plastic bags, an increase in recycling facilities, and an increase in composting, are all just part of the strategy. Follow the link to read more key points of the UK government’s waste strategy.
