I’d seen these about for a while but this was the first time I’ve had one to test and I’ll say up front that I love it. I make no apologies for this review being overly positive as I’m enjoying using the bag so much.
The great thing about this compared to other eco-bags is the size. Not when fully opened, it’s pretty big with a capacity of 14.7 litres, but when folded up. Well, more crammed into it’s holder than folded. But it’s easy to do unlike a bigger thing like a sleeping bag, and you’re left with a little ball that will fit easily into a pocket or a handbag.
It comes with a carabiner clip to attach it presumably to handbags but also belts, coats etc. I didn’t find this particularly useful, a smaller clip would have been fine, but it is good the way it can connect to a loop and the bag, clip and loop become a shoulder strap. I felt a bit of an idiot with it attached to my belt though, but maybe that’s because I have the charcoal and lime coloured one with meant the bag was bright green.
Strangely enough I didn’t feel stupid when I took it out of my pocket at the supermarket till. I was excited to use it and it held more than I thought. The handles are secure and comfortable even with heavy purchases and if you can enjoy carrying shopping home, then I did.
It can be carried with the built in shoulder strap too but I found it easily just to carry it down by my side. However my girlfriend found the shoulder strap option better for her so it’s up to you.
On the outside of the bag there’s a pocket for receipts, shopping lists or… well I don’t know what’s for really as when you put the bag away whatever’s in there will need to be taken out or get very crumpled. Perhaps if you attach the bag to a keyring full of keys it’s a place to put them. Although it’s very big, you could even keep some extra shopping in there.
More information can be found at the Onya Bags website too. I do have one slight query about the ‘parachute’ material it’s made out of, whether it’s truly environmentally friendly, but I’m waiting to hear back. I’ll update the article when I do.
