Eco Nation Universal Eco Speakers Eco Product Review

Maybe I’ve been out of the loop but I didn’t know such amazing things as these existed – build your own speakers. Well you don’t actually really need to build much as the electronics are done for you but these Eco Speakers are great.

I received them as a present so no idea where they came from but it was like a nod back to my childhood. With the complicated bits done all for you, all that’s left for you to do is put the cardboard backing together in a box shape and then decorate it to your heart’s content.

Eco Nation speakers

Which I haven’t done yet but I will when artistic inspiration hits me. The speakers are powered by the mp3 player, iPod or laptop you connect it to so you don’t need another power source. They’re probably useful as travel speakers but as they’re made of cardboard you’ll have to be careful not to rip them as they’ll be difficult to repair easily.

Fun as a gift and quite useful round the house, have found myself using them more than I would have thought. Available online from places like Amazon, Eco Nation Universal Eco Speakers cost between £7-20.00 depending on what type you get.

New Beauty Brand Reminds You To Save Water

Stop The Water

There are a lot of great eco-friendly brands around these days so standing out from the crowd is getting harder and harder but one German company has avoided the usual brand name and gone with a message instead: Stop The Water While Using Me.

While the website isn’t quite finished, Stop The Water sells three different items: shampoo, shower gel and toothpaste. The big message on the front doesn’t leave you with any question of what you should do while using it – stop running the water.

As well as the organic and natural ingredients it’s packaged in biodegradable containers, something which is often missing from environmentally friendly beauty products.

You can find out more about Stop The Water and where to buy its products on its website.

Babies in Sheep’s Clothing Lambskin Merino Wool Eco Product Review

Babies In Sheep’s Clothing is an online store selling ethical lambskin and merino clothing for babies and children.

Based in East Sussex, it sources high quality, handmade ethically produced lambskin and merino clothing from New Zealand that are built to last – the founders passionately believe that their products should be passed along to a brother or sister. As I don’t have any children, I passed on the beanie hat so my godson, Harry and his mother Kate to review.

Merino hat

“As well as stocking a fabulous selection of sheepskin products,Babies In Sheep’s Clothing also sells the cutest selection of hats, scarves, blankets, trousers, hoodies and jumpers made from super soft merino wool.

“Like the sheepskin that they sell, the merino wool is also sourced from New Zealand. It is both durable and suitable for the most sensitive of skin and is therefore the perfect fabric to dress even the youngest of babies in.

“There are three different styles of hats to choose from suitable for newborn babies up to 12 months old. My personal favourite is the stripy beanie, which would look adorable on any baby’s head and at £16.50, it would make a great new baby present. The tiny scarves with button detailing are the perfect thing to keep baby warm in autumn, when it’s not really cold enough to wrap them up in snowsuits but they need something more than a little coat or cardigan.

“For the super stylish parent of baby girls, I would highly recommend the ponchos, whilst the hoody would look fabulous on either a boy or a girl.

“All of the items are hand knitted which more than justify the price of the products and as they are made of such top quality wool with a little careful care, they should become a much sought after hand me downs.”

The products made from merino wool vary in price and are available from Babies In Sheep’s Clothing.

Eco-Friendly Swimsuits For Summer

Who says green isn’t sexy? Actually I don’t know many people who say that, but eco-blog Treehugger has tried to dispel the myth anyway and put together a slideshow of eco-friendly swimsuits for the summer. Apologies to those of you who were hoping for some guys in swimming shorts, it’s just ladies this time. Like the one pictured below which is Mocium’s zebra-print bikini for $220. You can find the slideshow here.

Essentials For The Eco Festival Goer

Nigel’s Eco Store shamelessly sent me an email with a list of their products that would be good for the festival season. And you know what? It’s pretty good, so without any apologies, I’ve reproduced it below. I’ve always had good dealings with the store but as always if you haven’t used them before, check out some reviews and obviously shop around, although some of their products are hard to find elsewhere! By the way, we reviewed the Sun Jar here.

Solar shower

Found a pitch and set up the tent…then rig up Solar Camp Shower – a hot shower you can pack up and take with you. Fill it with water, leave in the sun for 3 hours to get hot, then hang it up to use. Perfect to freshen up after a session in the mosh pit.

When at the water tap….try a Hydropal Filter Water Bottle. It has a built-in active carbon filter which removes all the chemicals so you can fill it from the tap, and enjoy filtered water every day. One Hydropal bottle can replace about 400 plastic throwaway bottles, saving landfill and benefitting the environment.

Tent party…with the Eton Am/Fm Wind Up Radio with Siren, Torch, and Phone Charger. The Eton Wind Up radio is a water-resistant wind up radio with a built in LED light and mobile phone charger. You wont need to worry about your mobile running out of juice either.

Chillax ….with some Solar Powered Portable Speakers. Connect these acoustically designed solar powered speakers to your iPod or music phone, for excellent sound quality, powered by renewable solar energy. The built-in rechargeable battery is charged by the sun or even residual light, and they’ll play for up to 8 hours from a 6 hours charge.

Dodge those guy ropes…wear the Solar Light Cap and keep your hands free. The two strong LEDs under the peak will light up about 6 feet in front of you. What’s more there’s enough light for most people, with up to 5 hours of light from a fully charged cap. Great for navigating through a sea of tents after a looooong night.

Who forgot the torch?…With the Woodpecker Shake Flashlight you just shake. The double generator of the shake torch creates double the amount of power from shaking. Woodpecker is ideal for use near and around water. Perfect for festival deluges.

Party on …..with the Sun Jar Solar Light. It looks like a storage jar, but it has a solar cell, batteries and LED light under the lid – it stores sunlight in the daytime and when it gets dark the Sun Jar automatically turns itself on and glows with the day’s sunshine. Available in orange or blue light, the Sun Jar will give out light for about five hours on one charge.

Just woken up …. use the hyG Ionic Toothbrush – cleans your teeth, no toothpaste required. It has been clinically proven to be 48% more effective at removing plaque than normal brushing. 60% of hyG users said that their teeth felt cleaner, smoother and more polished from the very first time they used.

Day 3 and still looking dapper ….try the Wind Up and Rechargeable Electric Shaver – for a close shave anywhere, any time. Just wind it up and the internal dynamo generates energy to shave again. You’ll be fresh as a daisy.

Transition Vert Offers A Multi-Lingual Eco View

There aren’t many multi-lingual blogs around so when one of them’s an eco-blog I thought it was worth a mention.

Transition Vert is dedicated to bringing people’s green experiences from around the world – in different languages. Set up by a former editor of Green Guy’s Global, Gareth Jones, the site has an unusal mix of writers including a 10 year-old girl, a human rights activist with experience in Kosovo and Rwanda and a lawyer from the Exxon Valdez case who quit when she realised she was on the wrong side. There are also writers from Norway, Nigeria and Indonesia lined up so it’s well worth a look.
